White and Silver Wedding Cake with Roses
This is a very simple white wedding cake with silver ribbon that I made recently. The bride was providing her own roses, and as I was not present to get pictures of it…in order to show you what it may have looked like, I confess, I photoshopped on the roses.
The cake inside was vanilla with vanilla buttercream filling, and it is covered in white fondant, with silver ribbon around each tier. This cake could easily be made any colour of the rainbow, or jazzed up in any of 100 ways, simply by changing the ribbon or say, the colour of the roses:

A simple cake like this, with a topper of fresh or gumpaste flowers, is the perfect cake for the budget-conscious bride.

This cake was one of the most fun cakes to make that I’ve done so far. I loved making wee clothes and things out of fondant. There’s a lot going on on this one, but let’s give you the top view first:

So what you are looking at is baby, who has clearly strewn his clothes all about, sleeping soundly beside the upturned laundry basket.
Around the sides of this cake, baby’s laundry is hanging, and a few toys and things are here too including his teddy:

Here is another shot of some of the laundry hanging:

My concept with this cake was to say, “Get ready mommy, because from now on it’s go, go, go!” and I think I captured that here. The cake inside was vanilla bean with vanilla bean filling (a popular one lately!) and the cake is covered with green fondant.

This was a birthday cake for a lad who loves the Calgary Flames. The puck cake is vanilla bean with vanilla bean filling, covered with fondant and with a fonant/royal icing logo on top.

Well, this was my first ‘carved’ cake, though not my first in 3D. It came out beautifully, if a little bit creepy. This was created for a Scorpio who was celebrating a November birthday.

A 3D Scorpion Birthday Cake

The cake in the “base” was vanilla, with a vanilla buttercream filling, and the scorpion himself was also vanilla cake covered with fondant. The tail is made of fondant blocks, and the sand is made from graham crumbs. In retrospect, I didn’t give him the proper number of legs (it’s 8 PLUS claws, not including!) but nobody but me noticed
I love this little cake. In the pictures it’s hard to tell but this would only serve around 10 people. I was able to turn this guy around in one business day, so it was an all-around win for me!

Well as everyone can see it is well past November 1st and the new site is not up. Due to an increased demand for cakes in October (and November, and December…keep ‘em coming!) as well as having been on my honeymoon, I have not been able to get the site finished yet. It looks great, though, and I am now aiming for a release date of January 1st, 2010.
I will try to post all my recent cakes this week as time allows. There are some really great ones that I am dying to get up. Big things are brewing here at HeatherSwitall.com. Thanks for continuing to check the site for updates!
