Hi Everyone,
As you can see I have been AWOL for some time. Later this week I will be posting pictures of some children’s birthday cakes I have done recently. In the meantime, check out the article I wrote recently on wedding cake trends for the upcoming Spring season:
Wedding Cake Trends for Spring ‘09
I will be frequently posting articles at Suite101, so make sure to check back here often - I will link to all cake-related pieces.
Delicious!

Ooh la la!
Believe it or not, this cake was for a boy. It was a joke of sorts; we had a “Man Bridal Shower” for him, and decided to make it a very feminine affair. The mirrored “L” topper was purchased at McCall’s in Etobicoke.
Both tiers of this cake are vanilla, with a mocha cream filling. It is iced in vanilla buttercream and covered in white fondant, with purple fondant “ribbon”, and purple and white fondant heart accents. The small purple hearts which adorn the white fondant are hand-painted. Manly!

This bridal shower cake was my first attempt at creating lifelike flowers, and I think they turned out quite well. Although you can’t see all of the flowers, there are orchids, calla lilies, and rose buds, along with some ivy leaves.
The cake istelf is vanilla with a lemon butter filling. It is iced in buttercream and covered in white fondant. The accents are royal icing, and all flowers and leaves are made from gumpaste.
